On July 9 2010 Tbilisi Philharmonic Concert
Hall hosted the annual contest Miss Deaf World and Miss Deaf Europe. 36
Candidates from all over the world took part in the competition. Georgia was
represented by Nino Kakhidze, Miss Deaf Georgia.
Initiated by
Coalition for Independent Living (CIL) a memorandum was formed today in
Telavi,
Kakheti region between the local Municipality Bodies, the Board,
Regional
Administration and local non-governmental organizations working
disability
rights protection in the region. The memorandum implies to foster the
inclusion
of people with disabilities in decision-making process in the region.
The second
Disability Fair Forum was
traditionally concluded with the awarding ceremony for the winners in
different
nominations. The Jury composed of representatives from state as well as
non-state agencies and arts sphere identified 11 winners in various
nominations
the names of whom became known to the broad public at the closing
ceremony of
II Disability Exhibition-Fair Forum.
June 14 is a National Disability
Rights
Protection Day in Georgia and to commemorate this day, Sheraton Metekhi
Palace
hosted a second disability fair forum which proceeded with the
participation of
43 non-governmental and governmental organizations as well as
international
agencies.
In order to ensure
accessibility at certain polling stations for May 30 elections, Coalition for
Independent Living created 3 mobile teams that were equipped with a mini-van
with special lift and portable ramps to help wheelchair-user voters with
getting to their polling stations and voting independently throughout the
entire day.
