Car Racing with Participation of Persons with Disabilities

May 20 saw Kostava Avenue blocked from Saakadze Square to Morkinali for the first time. The reason had to do with the initiative of disability organizations to organize a car racing with the involvement of persons with disabilities, professional drivers and their friends. The aim of the event was to raise public awareness about disability and support equal opportunities for persons with disabilities to lead independent and active lives.

It is noteworthy that it was the first ever car racing event in the Caucasus with participation of persons with disabilities, 32 amateur and professional drivers in total.

Tbilisi City Hall supported the racing in frames of the project “Acitve Life is My Cup of Tea”.

8 sponsors and supporters including Beeline, Tegeta Motors, Georgian Industry Group, Gulf, Barambo, Aversi, Tbilisi City17.jpg Hall and the organizing group were presented by a total of 8 teams consisting of two disabled drivers, one professional driver and one celebrity.

Beeline and Tegeta Motors teams competed with each other in the finals. Tegeta Motors won the competition and Georgian Industry Group took the third place. Tegeta Motors team consisted of Zaqro Kharkhelishvili, Rati Ionatamishvili, Gogi Chachanidze and Zura Bezhashvili and the event was hosted by Naniko Khazaradze, Gogi CHanadiri and Anuka Nakashidze.

The winners were awarded with cell phones by the key sponsor of the event Beeline and special prizes by other sponsor companies including Barambo and Bagrationi.

One of the most effective ways for social integration of PWD is their involvement in sports and cultural activities. Project authors and organizers are planning to arrange more of such activities with the involvement of persons with disabilities.
