First Georgian Voice Synthesizer To Be Built in 2011
Coalition for Independent Living and Union of the Blind of Georgia are happy to announce that the dream of the blind population of the country will soon come true – Georgian voice synthesizer will be built and launched in 2011.
UBG has spent years of efforts to promote the need of Georgian voice programs “synthesizers” for blind users. Such programs are available and popular in many countries across the world ensuring access to computer for the blind. The software enables beneficiaries to communicate, enrich their knowledge, collect information and have fun.
Due to the high cost of building this program (100 000 euros) UBG was not able to raise funds for the Georgian synthesizer up until now. The first organization to donate funds and therefore launch the process was Embassy of Poland who contributed 40 000 euros followed by the government of Georgia who donated 8 000 euros. However, the remaining 52 000 euros were the hardest to find.
