First Paralympic Athletes International Day in Georgia
Embassy of Great Britain in Tbilisi hosted the International Day of Paralympic Athletes on September 8, 2011. Various officials and public figures attended the reception including local and international organizations, athletes with disabilities, government officials, etc. The event aimed at establishing partnership between government agencies and international organizations to support the development of disabled sports in Georgia.
Judith Gough, HM Ambassador to Georgia congratulated the audience on the International Day of Paralympic Athletes and called for supporting paralympic movement and disabled sports in the country. She also wished good luck and success to those athletes who are trying to acquire qualification licenses for London Paralympic Games 2012. “I believe that paralympic games are a trully great event. It provides opportunity for persons with disabilities to achieve great success, feel motivated and urged to fight for success. Paralympic Games in Great Britain are as popular as Olympic Games”.
Paralympic Games are recognized and organized by the International Olympic Committee in the same years as the winter and supper Olympic Games are conducted, one month after their completion.
