Roughrider – Made in Georgia
Industry parade “Made in Georgia” was held in Tbilisi on May 26 to mark the Independence Day of Georgia – which Coalition for Independent Living was also involved in. CIL presented locally produced active type wheelchairs, pressure relief cushions, postural support seating equipment and portable ramps.
The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili and the City Mayor Gigi Ugulava also viewed the CIL corner, examined the products and made public statements about the need and importance of accessible environment.
The above-mentioned wheelchairs, portable ramps, hand controls for vehicles and other adaptive equipment are produced at the CIL social enterprise in Tbilisi where persons in wheelchairs are employed. The social enterprise was established and supported by the USAID-funded project Georgian Wheelchair Production Network that is being implemented by CIL and its partner organizations World Institute on Disability and Whirlwind Wheelchair International since 2009.
