Tbilisi Open Championship in Archery
Open championship in archery among persons with disabilities was held in Rose Square on June 10, 2012. 40 persons in wheelchairs took part in the event most of whom were paired with celebrities (Sopho Bedia, Ia Danelia, Mako Metreveli, Giorgi Sukhitashvili, Oto Nemsadze, Lasha Kervalishvili, Oto Kovziridze, Nika Arabidze) in the finals. In the end, Tina Bregvadze and Ia Danelia won among women and Oto Nemsadze and Giorgi Amashukeli won the first place among men.
The championship was accompanied with a concert in support of persons with disabilities involving performances from Sopho Bedia and Boris Bedia, theatrical quartet, Datuna Sirbiladze, Roma Rtskhiladze, Giorgi Sukhitashvili and Oto Nemsadze. Tbilisi Open Championship in Archery was held in frames of the project “Active Life is My Cup of Tea” which is being implemented by persons with disabilities and aims to popularize the issues of disability among the society and remove negative public perceptions by promoting independent and active lifestyle of persons with disabilities.
The project authors are promising especially active and hot summer during which persons with disabilities will be invited to participate in various sports activities including rafting, sailing, paraplan flight, water-skiing, Tbilisi open championships in billiard, demonstrations in sports and ball dances and other cultural and sports events.
Tbilisi City Hall and Beeline, who awarded the 12 winners with cell phones, again supported the above-mentioned championship in archery.
