In cooperation with the Human Rights Secretariat of the Government of Georgia, CIL organized a workshop with the UNCRPD expert Gerard Quinn and representatives of disabled people’s organizations, human rights organizations and government agencies. The meeting took place at State Chancellery on December 21. The main focus of the meeting was to review Article 33 of the UNCRPD  (UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) in theory as well as practical solutions adopted by different states to implement the requirements of Article 33 and discuss their relevance and applicability for Georgian reality.  

During the meeting, Mr. Quinn elaborated on the provision of Article 33 as well as the examples of various EU countries in establishing/designating focal points and coordination mechanisms within their governments and discussed their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, Mr. Quinn became familiar with the Georgian solutions in this regard and commented on their compliance with the requirements of the UNCRPD Article 33.
